Kangwon Land Shuts Its Door Again in the Wake of COVID – 19 Resurgence

Kangwon Land is the only casino in South Korea where the citizens are allowed to gamble. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the casino to close down temporarily in February. It re-opened in the 3rd week of July and allowed only 750 people per day to enter the premises. However, a resurgence in new COVID-19 cases has convinced the authorities of Kangwon Land to close down the operations once again to safeguard the interests of the public. The facility closed down at 10 am on Sunday, and it is expected to continue for an undisclosed length of time, but many assume that it will end at 6 am on 29th August. South Korea has already called for the implementation of Level – 2 guidelines on social distancing. There are three big casinos in the Korean Peninsula, and, sadly, Kangwon Land has been experiencing the most prolonged period of business suspensions.

Although there are many speculations regarding the re-opening of the gaming venue, the final decision will be taken only when the firm has taken into consideration the health officials’ advice and, of course, the national picture regarding the resurgence of COVID-19. The company apprehends a loss of USD 6.3 million, based on the sales that occurred in the first half of 2020.

At present, the situation in South Korea is not very encouraging as more than 2200 new cases have been reported in the country. The government has already announced that venues like gambling centers, karaoke parlors, and nightclubs must close down. Also, gatherings of 50 or more people and events involving more than 100 people are prohibited too.
