Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment (MGE) announced its plans to open a casino resort worth multibillion-dollars in the second-half of 2022 at Incheon international airport in South Korea.
Initially, the first phase of this project was expected to start in 2020. However, the plans got postponed after the pandemic hit the world. In the wake of Covid-19, there was again a revision in the plan’s execution from 2021 to late 2022.
MGE is a US-based casino operator that offers one-of-a-kind entertainment that boosts global entertainment growth. This project of South Korea Casino, “Inspire Entertainment Resort,” at Incheon international airport, is Mohegan’s first investment outside North America. For this massive project, MGE is set to pay the capital commitment of $5 billion to the authorities of South Korea for a gaming license at Incheon airport. This investment will be released in multiple installments over 20 years, with a set deadline of 2031.
Lucrative Destination of Incheon International Airport
Unlike other airport experience, Incheon airport is known for its extravagant services and culture in South Korea. Since 2005, the airport has been ranked as ‘Best Airport Worldwide’ by the Airports Council International. It has a golf course, ice rink, spa, private sleeping rooms, the Museum of Korean culture, a video game center, a medical center, and an indoor garden, making it a busy airport that always occupies thousands of travelers. It acts as the main air hub for the country’s largest and capital city, Seoul.
Therefore, MGE’s multibillion-dollar casino project at Incheon airport is a thoughtful investment. Known as “Inspire Entertainment Resort,” the casino will only be accessible for foreigners, as the locals of South Korea are not allowed to gamble. This investment will bring the complex three 5-star luxury hotels with a combined occupation in 1,250 rooms, indoor and outdoor shopping facilities, rooftop infinity pool, a casino floor with 250 table games and 1,500 slot machines, 15,000 seat theater, and 120,000-square-foot convention center. Undoubtedly, this project is huge and will generate billions of profits for the company. However, the pace of developing, designing, and construction is continuously being impacted by the quarantines and lockdowns as the precautionary measures for Coronavirus infection, especially in the USA and Asian countries. Things are going slow, and there is also a need to have a post-Corona plan ready so that there can be an assured safety of employees and guests.
